Newton's Castle selected for Children of the Code

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Steve,

This is David Boulton, your email was forwarded to me.  First of all, thanks for your interest and for taking the time to share your work "Newton's Castle". In my talks, for almost 20 years, I have used Newton's question as a metaphor for education. Instead of teaching children about what Newton discovered, I have always been interested in: "how do we create the condition in which children will ask themselves "why doesn't the moon fall to the earth like an apple". How can education create environments that precipitate authentic first-person questions and then resource the learner's learning needs as they proceed to explore their questions. Its not that I think all education can be handled this way - but I do think most of it should.

I had a brief look at your work. Once we get the Children of the Code (www.childrenofthecode.org) project to the next level we will be compiling an index of sites.  We will include yours.

Thanks again for contacting us - thanks for the great work you are doing and for all the kids you are helping.

WiredSafety.org using Music Piracy Webquest and Freedom of Speech Powerpoint
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Steve,

Great to hear from you.  Small world indeed.  I've pointed to Why is the Mona Lisa Smiling many times during the early Thinkquest days and in my WebQuest workshops with Tom March.  I love making those kind of connections!  The only thing more fun is turning cyber-connections into real ones at conferences.

Thanks for the resources.  As I look at them I see two things that fit well, namely your music piracy webquest and the PowerPoint on Freedom of speech.  The PowerPoint would be used as is, probably as a resource in a Web-and-Flow activity that I will be creating.  However, I would like to adapt the webquest vocabulary and material to be geared down to middle school level.  Of course there would be appropriate credit and linking back to your original material.

Thanks!
Art Wolinsky
