Today, most kids would rather watch television than read a book. Instead of a remote control, we'd like to put a book in your hands and entice you to read classic literature. This website provides local and oral history, summaries, dramatizations, interviews, images, music, games, and a virtual tour to pique your interest.
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is an exciting story that has been told for many years. Washington Irving writes about the everyday rustic life of Dutch settlers in the 1800s in a way that is both charming and relevant to readers today. The story is about a school teacher who falls in love with the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel but must face the rivalry of Brom Bones and the Headless Horseman.
Many people aren't aware of the local inspiration Irving found in the ordinary people of Sleepy Hollow. Irving transformed his lawyer, his blacksmith, the schoolteacher, and the local beauty into his characters. He used the neighborhood sites around him, such as the bridge, the church, the hill, and the Van Tassel farm as the setting.
We hope you will read "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and many other good books. Don't forget to sign our guestbook and tell us what you think!
