Diners

During the 1940s many people loved eating at diners. A diner is a restaurant that is in the shape of a railroad car. Some diners were made out of stainless steel inside and out. Some were long and narrow and not too big.

Foods in the diners were usually home cooked meals for a reasonable price and were generally family operated. Many people believed that all diners were converted into railroad car or trolleys. As a matter of a fact, some were. You could tell a diner from a restaurant because diners were usually  made out of stainless steel, tile, and glass and were one story high. Also they had juke boxes where you could play your favorite song.

There have been dozens of companies that have been open over the years. If you look carefully enough, most diners have a small nameplate somewhere in the interior identifying the company that built it, but they are often small and not easy to find. There are diners that still exist today from the 1940s.
