Dwight Eisenhower
General Dwight David Eisenhower was a great leader in American history. He helped America to victory during World War II and he proved to be a man of great characters.
In 1942, Dwight Eisenhower was appointed as a general and he commanded U.S. forces in North Africa. During 1943, he successfully directed the invasion of Sicily and Italy and he was then called to England where he became the Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Force in 1944. He began to plot the invasion of Normandy with the Allied countries and he commanded the invasion that is now known as the D-Day. D-Day was one of the most important turning points of World War II. In 1944, Dwight Eisenhower was awarded with the title General of the Army, making him one of the only two Americans to become a five-star general.
When the war was over, he became the President of Columbia University. Then he took supreme command over the new NATO forces assembled in 1951. In 1953, he was elected 34th president of the U.S. in a landslide victory.
