Franklin D. Roosevelt
The 32nd president of the U.S. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, was born in 1882. He contributed a lot during his years of service and led Americans through a time crises in the 1940's with his amazing leadership.
After Roosevelt’s victory in his third reelection in 1940, he soon faced his country’s first crisis. Japan’s surprise attack with a carrier-based airplane launched at the Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 stunned the whole country. The United States soon declared war to Japan and its allies. In 1943, the United States joined in the World War II. Later in 1945, President Roosevelt, the prime minister of Britain, Premier of the USSR and other political leaders met together to discuss the postwar situation. The Yalta Conference, as it is known, helped the countries to reach an important agreement. In Roosevelt’s campaign for his fourth term in office, the public saw him growing pale, old and thin. Though he won the election, his energy was worn. President Roosevelt died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage on April 12, 1945. Vice president Harry Truman took the Office the same day, and the World War II ended soon after.
President Roosevelt will always be remembered as a great leader during times of crisis in the United States. He was the only president that was elected to office for four terms and his strength and determination gave Americans the hope they needed during this time.
