Shirley Jackson

    Shirley Jackson was a famous American horror short story and novel writer during the 1940s. Her books were terrifying and yet, memorable.

    A few of Shirley Jackson’s famous works included “The Lottery”, “The Haunting of Hill House” and “We Have Always Lived in the Castle”. “The Lottery” describes an “average” New England village with “average” citizens. In the village, there’s a tradition where powerful individuals in the village hold a lottery picking ceremony each year. The “winner” of the lottery’s fate was slowly revealed and the shocking ending left many readers speechless. “The Lottery” was called “one of the most terrifying stories written in this century.”

    There were much controversy over Shirley Jackson’s writing, but people all agreed that she’s a powerful storyteller. She passed away at the age of 48 in 1965.
