Zeus - The Lord of the Sky, and God of Rain
Zeus was sixth child born to the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. He is the Supreme God and
Ruler of all the Gods and Goddesses who lived on Mt. Olympus. He became the
undisputed master of the universe, and as the God of rain, drought, storms, and
all weather - he was worshipped as the source of heavenly signs. He called
upon tempests and created storms, and kept the peace among the
family of Olympians.
Ares- God of War
The son of Zeus and Hera, Ares was the Spirit of War. He was disliked by
most Olympians but loved by Aphrodite, Ares was a god of action and
determination. When he heard battle, he instictively put on his
gleaming helmet, and leaped onto his chariot. With his sword he
rushed into the thick of battle, unconcerned who won or lost
as long as blood was shed.
Poseidon- Lord of the Sea
The son of Cronos and Rheia, brother of Zeus, Hades, Hestia, Demeter,
and Hera. Posedion is one of the six orginal Olympians. He was
appointed the Lord of The Sea. His mission is to give voice to the earth. He
was commonly called the earth-shaker and the earth-encircler inthe
odyssey of homer. He pounds and shakes the earth and sea with
his wrath and pleasure and answers to no one
except Zeus.
Apollo- God of the Sun
The son of Zeus, and the brother of the goddess Artemis,he is the god of arts,
archery, and divination. He represents order, harmony, and civilization in a way
that most other Olympian deities cannot quite equal. Apollo is most often associated
with the cultivated arts of music and medicine, and his role as the leader
of the Muses establishes him as a patron of
intellectual persuits.
Hephaestus - God of Fire and Crafts
He was the son of Zeus and Hera, and in other opinions Hera alone. He limped because
he was born handicapped, which caused Hera to throw him off Mt. Olympus.
Hephaestus accomplished numerous prodigies of craftsmanship, such as the
marvelous palaces, and temples that he built for the Gods atop Mt. Olympus,
or armor made for the Gods' battle. He also created the first
woman, Pandora, at the command of Zeus.
Hermes - Messenger of Zeus
The winged messanger of the Olympians, Hermes was the beloved son of
Zeus and Maia.As a friend to the mortals, he introduced weights and measures
and he also escorts the dead to Hades. He is the giver of good luck and has a
hand in all secret deals. He taught mortals all arts, such how to make roads
and markets. In ancient times, a bust of Hermes was placed
atop pillars to mark boundaries.
He is the son of Cronus and Rhea, and the brother Zeus and Poseidon.
After dividing creation into thirds between brothers, Hades was
made the Lord of the Underworld, ruling over the dead. He is an
extremely greedy god, who is greatly concerned with increasing
his minions. When the mortals kneeled before the cold-hearted
Hades, they could never leave his domain. Hades, however, was
not alone to rule the underworld. Persephone, the daughter
of Demeter (goddess of the harvest), whom he had abducted
from the upper-world, was his wife, and the
goddess of underworld.
