John Tyler was born on March 29, 1790 in Charles City County, Virginia.  He was the son of John Tyler Sr. and Mary Armistead.  Tyler was the seventh of eight children.  John Tyler was named after his father.  His mother died when he was only seven years old. He grew up on a plantation.  He was educated at the college of William and Mary.  His  father  became governor of Virginia in 1808.

John Tyler married twice, first to Letitia Christain Tyler and then to Jualia Gardiner Tyler. Letitia died while John was in office from a stroke. He then married Jualia while he was president.  He was the only president who had 15 children.  During his administration, he signed the annexation of Texas into law.  He was unable to make a lot of difference because he didn't have support from his cabinet. In fact everyone resigned from their position in the cabinet except for Daniel Webster, who was the Secretary of State. After his term was done, he did not run again. Instead he choose to retired to his farm in Virginia.  John Tyler died at the age of 71.
