William Henry Harrison was the son of Benjamin Harrison and Elizabeth Bassett.   He had four sisters and two brothers.  His family was very active in politics.   In fact, his father was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.  Most of his family members served in a political office.  William Henry Harrison grew up during the Revolutionary War and his home was ransaked by the British.  He studied pre-med at the Hampdem Sydney College.   He then continue studying medicine in  the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.  However, he was unable to finish medical school because he could no longer afford it.   Harrison decided that the best thing for him was to join the army, and follow a political career.   He always dreamed of being the president!

William Henry Harrison married Anna Tuthill Symmes. They had five sons and four daughters. William Henry Harrison was the grandfather of Benjamin Harrison who turned to be our 23rd president.  William left the military in 1798. It was then when he decided to be more active in politics and became the Governor of the Indian Territories.  His political career flourished as he led the Indian Confederacy in India. In 1811, the Native Americans attacked Harrison and his troops while they were a sleep at the Tippecanoe Creek.

In 1836, William Harrison ran for president, but unfortunately he didn't win. He was then renominated in 1840 with John Tyler as his Vice President.  Harrison took office in a chilly day in March 1841.  He gave the longest speech any president had ever given in their inaugural address. His speech lasted one hour and forty minutes. When his speech was about to finish, it started raining. Instead of him putting on his coat or wear his hat to ride in a coach, he decided to ride his horse.  A few days later he developed a very bad cold. His cold got really bad and turn into pneumonia, he died on April 4, 1841.
