The New 7 Wonders campaign was a global contest that started in the year 2000. The campaign was started by a man named Bernard Weber. He is a Swiss film producer, author and aviator. The campaign started out with 77 nominations. Twenty one finalists were selected. These 21 finalists were judged on their beauty, historical value, complexity, architectural
significance and cultural balance.

.....The 21 finalists included The Acropolis, The Statue of Liberty, The Taj Mahal, Stone Henge, and the Pyramids of Giza. The remaining finalists are listed on the chart below. Over 100 million people from around the world voted. They voted by Internet, telephone and text messaging. The New 7 Wonders of the World were announced during the Official Declaration
ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, July 7, 2007.
