.....China is a country in eastern border Asia. It is the world’s largest country in population with 1,346,606,000 people and an area of 3,692,674 square miles. The Chinese call their country ZHONGGUO, which means “Middle Country”. Its offical name is The People's Republic of China. It is the third largest country in area. Over 90% of the people in China live in the eastern half of China where most of the land is good for farming.  The largest city in China is Shanghai with 14,348,535 people.The capital of China is Beijing. Other major cities are Chongging and Guangzhou. The languages spoken in China are Mandarin, Cantonese and Putonghua. Some religions practiced in China are Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and a few Muslims.

    China has forests and lowlands that cover most of northeastern China. The Qin Ling mountain ranges cover eastern central China. Hills and tropical lowlands cover southeast. Dry and rocky plateaus that are divided by mountain ranges cover western China and the Himalayas are between southwest and India. Other high mountain ranges include Tian Shan, Altai and the Kunlun mountains. There are a lots of deserts cover northwest of China. The Giant Panda and the Red Panda live in the bamboo forest on upper mountain slopes of western and southwestern China.

.....Grains, such as rice and wheat, are the main foods in China. Wheat is used to make dumplings and noodles.Vegetables also are very popular in the Chinese diet along witheggs, fish, fruits, and shellfish. Tea is the favorite beverage to drink. China is one of the world’s oldest living civilizations.  It’s history goes back over 3,000 years.  The Chinese were the first to develop the compass, paper, porcelain, and silk cloth. 

.....China's national anthem is called “March of the Volunteers”.  China’s flag was adopted in 1949. It is red with yellow stars on the left corner. There is one big star with four little stars surrounding it. The largest star represents the leadership of the Communist party. The four small stars stand for group works.  The government is controlled by the Communist party.  The head of the government is called the Premier. The Premier is assisted by the State Council.

.....The Great Wall of China was built thousands of years ago for protection and is now a major tourist attraction. It was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2007!
