The Great Wall is the longest structure ever built. It is about 4,500 miles (7,240 long. The Great
Wall was built over centuries from about 240 B.C. Emperor Shi Houngdi was the first emperor to think
of building a great wall. The Great Wall stretches from the edge of northern China all the way to eastern
China. The Great Wall existed to protect kilometers) China. The Great Wall has 24 towers and 13 watchtowers.
Next to the Great Wall are mountains and the northern Pacific Ocean. The first set of walls could keep the
Mongol
or the Japanese nomads out of the border. The emperors of China put the Great Wall on the border
because the
nomads tried to enter from the ocean. The great wall was built by human hands using bricks to
create the whole
thing. The Great Wall is no longer needed for protection. Every year, the Great Wall gets thousands of tourists. The monks of China practice their kungfu on the Great Wall. It’s called the ‘great monk practice”.
In 2007, the Great Wall of China was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World!
