......Jordan is an Arab country in the middle of the Middle East. Jordan is boarded by these countries: Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. The capital of Jordan is Amman, which is also its largest city.  It total land area is 34,495 square miles. It’s estimated population is approximately 5,816,000 people, most of whom live in the cities.  Jordans’ chief products include: barley, citrus fruits, goats, grapes, melons, olives, poultry, sheep, tomatoes and wheat.  The climate is hot and dry in the Jordan river valley and Syrian Desert. It is milder and wtter on the higher plateau.

.....Jordanians eat different foods, including cheese, cracked wheat, flat bread, rice, vegetables, and yogurt. Popular meats are lamb and chicken.  Lamb cooked in yogurt, known as called mansef, is served over a tray of rice.  Jordanians enjoy playing and watching sports, especially camel racing, basketball, martial arts, and soccer.  They enjoy getting together with family for picnics.

.....Jordan's government is a constitutional monarchy. The ruler of Jordan is King Abdullah II. He has a lot of power.  He appoints the prime minister to head the government, as well as the members of the Council of Ministers, or cabinet.  The king also appoints a 40 member Senate to four year terms.  The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies make up the National Assembly which is Jordan’s legislature. Jordan’s flag which was adopted in 1928, has three horizontal stripes, black, white and green.  On the left side is a white seven pointed star in a red triangle.

.....The people of Petra in the 400’s B.C., who were called the  Nabataean’s carved their homes and tombs into the cliffs of the trading center.   It was a trading center for about 600 years.  The cliff’s red sandstone led it to become  known as the rose-red city.

Petra was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2007!
