.....The Colosseum is an ancient amphitheater built by the Romans in what is now Italy. The Colosseum was completed around 80 A.D. while Vespasian was the emperor. When Vespasian was emperor, he wanted
the people to know that he cared for them so he took out all of Nero’s Golden Houses and his Golden statues
and sold the gold to make the Colosseum. Vespasian wanted to entertain his community with free sport
tournaments and they always gathered in the Colosseum. The Colosseum used to be the site of bloody battling tournaments. The Romans used to fight for entertainment. The Romans liked to be entertained by these bloody sports. They used to battle with each other. They had cages which held animals until the tournaments started.
Then they get released to the center of the tournament base. Over 5,000 animals were used for the tournaments
games. The battles were between the men and the wild animals. The women didn’t compete in the battles. Instead,
the Colosseum had the 4th floor for the women to sit and watch the battles. The amphitheater was used for
about 500 years.
..... The Colosseum is considered one of the greatest architectural and engineering works built by the Ancient Romans. Though the Colosseum is in ruined condition today from the earthquakes and the stone robbers, it still
