Octopus are invertebrates. That means they don’t have any backbone. Octopuses have 8 arms.
The arms of the octopus are called tentacles. Octopuses use their arms to move around.
The tentacles can also be used to grab food. On each of the tentacles, there are suction
cups.
On each arm, there is a total of 240 suction cups. This helps them to grab and hold their prey.
.............. When a mother octopus lays an egg, she goes to a dark area that is safe and protected. She lays her eggs and protects them so no predators eat the eggs. It takes a long time for the eggs to hatch. The mother octopus dies by the time her eggs hatch. She doesn’t have any food, while she’s protecting the eggs. When an octopus defends itself it squirts ink, swims quickly, or camouflages. When the octopus squirts ink, the ink attracts its predators and make it go away. When an octopus camouflages, it blends in with its surroundings. Octopuses have their mouth in between their 8 arms. Octopuses
eat clams, crabs, lobsters, and shellfish. Some octopuses eat fish.
