Mount Everest
Mount Everest is a natural wonder. This
fascinating wonder is part of the Himalaya Mountains on the continent of Asia. It borders Tibet and Nepal. This wonder is fascinating for three reasons. The first reason is for its size. This snow covered mountain is 29,035 feet tall. This mountain is the highest mountain on earth. Mount Everest is so high it stops warm moist air from reaching Tibet and China. It was first measured in 1852 and was called peak xv. In 1865, it was named Mount Everest.
The second reason is for its
religious importance. It is believed that a Tibetan goddess lives on Mount Everest. The third reason is for its formation. Millions of years ago wind, snow and ice shaped the sharp peaks and ridges on Mount Everest. The first people to climb Mount Everest were Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, his Sherpa. They made it to the top, even though it is a difficult mountain to climb.
