The Great Barrier Reef is a natural wonder. It is located on the north east coast of Australia. It is known for its size, beauty and formation. It is 1,260 miles long, which makes it the longest coral reef in the world. This wall of coral rock has 2,900 separate reefs and 300 coral and sand islands called cays. The coral has a hard limestone shell with living creatures inside it called polyps. About 1500 different kinds of fish like clownfish and scorpion fish live here. It has been protected and preserved since 1981.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a man-made structure. It is located in Sydney, Australia. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a wonder because of its size and construction. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the widest long-span bridge and it is the highest steel arch bridge in the world. The bridge is 440 feet tall and weighs 52,800 tons. Arch bridges are one of the strongest and oldest kinds of bridge. The curve of the arch carries the weight to the end supports. The Sydney Harbour Bridge was built in 1932 because people needed to travel from one side to the other. Before the bridge was built they had to use a ferry to get across. |
