The Amazon River
The Amazon River is located on the continent of South America from Peru to the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon River is a natural wonder because of its size. It is the one of the longest rivers in the world. The Amazon River is 4,008 miles long, and up to 7 miles wide during the dry season and 25 miles during the rainy season. It holds more water than any other river on Earth. It is surrounded by the largest rain forest in the world. The Amazon River helps South America by acting like a drain. It carries the Rain water to the Atlantic Ocean.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a man-made structure. It is located in South America. Machu Picchu is in the country of Peru and in the city of Cuzco. The people that built it were the Incas. There are four reasons why Machu Picchu is famous. It’s known for its construction, antiquity, religious and cultural importance. People believed Machu Picchu was built as a fortress against the Spanish. It was not easy to build, but it took years to make. It was built between 1450 and 1500. The Incas used what was around them. All they had to use were mountain rocks. Its size is about 5 acres. Machu Picchu was really discovered by a man named Hiram Bingham. The terraces were for flat areas for building houses and growing. |
