The Inca people called themselves Intip Churin, or the children of the sun. They believed that they were created by Virococha, the god of creation and that their ruler, the Sapa Inca was a direct descendant of the sun god. The Incas worshipped many great gods and goddesses and with their help they built a powerful, well organized governing system which kept the whole empire in order.
