The summer Olympics were held first. Then in 1924 the Winter Olympics started. At first, the Olympics were every four years. If the summer Olympics happened first, four years later, the winter Olympics would be held. But in 1994 that changed. The Olympics started to take place every 2 years alternating between summer and winter Olympics.
