The Erie Canal is 365 miles it goes from Albany to lake Erie and Buffalo. The Erie Canal construction of Erie Canal ended in 1825. Dewitt Clinton is the person who decided to built the Erie Canal. The work was done using horses, mules, wagons, wheelbarrows, hand tools, and thousands of Irish laborers. Tools were shovels ,pix, axe, hammer ,tools, picks ,dynamite and they used a pulley crane to make a Erie Canal lock in Lockport , NY. The tools that were used to built the Erie Canal was hammers , nails, cannons were placed every single ten miles along the route of the Erie Canal . The cannons were used to blast away at rock and soil. Workers had to actually shovel the oversized canal with shovels around gigantic mountain areas . Another tool that use to build the Erie Canal was dynamite. There many tools that were used to built the erie canal but the most important is the shovel.
