African Cultural Facts

In many places in Africa, food sources can be very scarce; so African cooks are trained to work with whatever ingredients are available. As a result, most African dishes are versatile enough that you can substitute one ingredient with another, or just leave it out, and it will still taste similar.

In a lot of Africa, especially East and West Africa, people will eat only two meals a day, in stead of the more western three meals. Also, because many people in Africa do not have refrigeration, the majority of African cooking ingredients consist of fresh foods. As well as using fresh food, many African families smoke meat in order to preserve it.
