Drawing with MoMA QNS program

Dear Colleague,

I hope all is going well with you. I am enclosing information on our sign-up Drawing with MoMA QNS program and our drop-in Friday Night at the Movies program.

Our Friday Night at the Movies Program runs on Fridays from March 19 through April 30 (except for the week of Spring Break). Students are invited to view films and discuss them with MoMA film educators and curators. Themes we will cover include

Then and Now, which examines how high school students are portrayed in film from the 1950's through the present. Students will explore gender roles and norms, as well as the various ways that relationships between teenagers have been depicted in film. Films include Raising Victor Vargas, Rebel Without a Cause, and The Breakfast Club.

The second theme of the series, Alternate Realities, will follow characters as they undergo personal odysseys. Films include The Wizard of Oz, Spirited Away, and The Brother from Another Planet. This is a drop-in program, so students do not have to register, they can just show up. I will also be sending posters to your schools to advertise this program.

The Drawing with MoMA QNS program is a new after-school program for high school students who want to learn the basics of drawing while exploring works of modern and contemporary art. In this Eight-Week program, students will learn drawing techniques such as life drawing, memory drawing, and drawing from imagination. They will explore works of art from MoMA's exciting temporary exhibitions and permanent collections at MoMA QNS on Thursday afternoons. Students must apply for this program.

Thank you for passing this information along to your students and colleagues!

Sincerely,

Heather Maxson
