Mood Rings and Bell Bottom Pants
Mood Rings
People of the 1970’s had their own unique fashion. People grew their
hair long. Some people even had Afros. People wore wide Bellbottoms and Hip
huggers. People wore platform shoes and wallabees which was the comfort shoe
of the 1970’s. They also wore Velour shirts and Disco shirts.
The newest thing in the 1970’s were mood rings.
Mood rings came about during the early 1970’s. These rings were a
way for people to express their moods. The ring would change color according
to your body temperature. Golden Yellow meant that you were tense, blue
meant that you were happy, purple meant you were moody, black meant you were
down, reddish brown meant you were insecure, clear meant you were a fraud
and green meant that you were easily amused. Joshua
Reynolds invented mood rings. These rings contained a heat sensitive liquid
crystal encased in quartz.
Through mood rings people had another way to assert their
independence. They were able to let everyone known the way that they were
truly feeling. People were able to have fun and express themselves through
mood rings.

Leisure Suits
In the 1970’s, a miraculous new type of clothing was created. These were called leisure suits. Leisure suits were created because people were looking for a casual replacement for a business suit. The leisure suit was the solution to this problem. The purpose was that men could look good, be casual, and dress for business, all at the same time, by wearing a leisure suit. Leisure suits were made of polyester, so no matter what you do, they do not crease. This was considered a miraculous new fabric. The suits came in practically every color or color combination imaginable. The unmistakable style of leisure suits was big collars and a silky look. Leisure suits were so popular that they even became the “uniform” for every contestant on the popular 1970’s TV show, “The Newlywed Game.” For these reasons and more, leisure suits were a very popular fashion in the 1970’s. http://desires.com/1.4/Style/Docs/leisure.html
Platform Shoes
Women's Platform Shoes John Travolta's Platform Shoe Platform shoes originated in the 1930’s, but they came back during the 1970’s. They were mostly used for dancing at clubs. They were also worn for everyday things, going shopping, taking walks, and just about everywhere. There were no gender rules for wearing platform shoes. However, men usually wore thicker heeled shoes, and ones that looked more like boots. Women usually wore ones with thinner heels, and ones that looked more feminine. On women’s platform shoes, the heel was usually much taller than the toe, making it look more like high heels. The style of the decade was, the taller the shoe, the cooler it looked, even if it meant being uncomfortable while walking. That is why platform shoes were a very popular fashion during the 1970’s. http://www.geocities.com/FashionAvenue/1495/1970.html
