` This year our sixth grade class attended City Hall Academy for two weeks. We conducted an in-depth investigation into the African Burial Ground in lower Manhattan. We all agreed that this was a meaningful experience. Shaquana believes that this residency gave us all a chance to learn about archaeology and know more about the past. Chelsea feels that it helps us understand what our ancestors went through. Monique found this experience meaningful because it is a part of our African-American heritage. Malcolm said that some of the slaves might have been our ancestors. Jerome indicated that the people buried in this sacred ground were the people who mainly built lower Manhattan. Deidra said that the remains discovered could probably be the ancestors of many citizens that are still alive today.
