Children of the CodeHello Steve,
This is David Boulton, your email was forwarded to me. First of all, thanks for your interest and for taking the time to share your work "Newton's Castle". In my talks, for almost 20 years, I have used Newton's question as a metaphor for education. Instead of teaching children about what Newton discovered, I have always been interested in: "how do we create the condition in which children will ask themselves "why doesn't the moon fall to the earth like an apple". How can education create environments that precipitate authentic first-person questions and then resource the learner's learning needs as they proceed to explore their questions. Its not that I think all education can be handled this way - but I do think most of it should.
I had a brief look at your work. Once we get the Children of the Code (www.childrenofthecode.org) project to the next level we will be compiling an index of sites. We will include yours.
Thanks again for contacting us - thanks for the great work you are doing and for all the kids you are helping.

ps - thanks also for the note about the Teacher Information Network award, we removed the link and will take off the artwork when next we rebuild the front end of the site.

Hi, Steve,
Thanks for sending me the link to your site. As it is December, I am a bit behind like everyone else. This is what I'd like to do. Instead of putting a link to your page on the Middle School page, I'd like to put it as a site "Worth Clicking" and have it be a feature for January on my Main page. OK?
I am a graduate student in an online Master's program and we have to examine some Web sites for an upcoming course and I'd like to use it for that too!
Glad you wrote to me. By the way, I am hoping to write a book about Ellis Island. I see your school is in New York.

Thanks for writing the Math Forum @ Drexel, and sharing this resource.
I've gone ahead and added your Newton's Castle site to the much more heavily trafficked Internet Mathematics Library, which you may confirm by searching or browsing the Library.
Please let us know about other math education resources by visiting our "suggest a link" page.
Let us know how this helps you.

Dear Steve,
I was away last week which is why I haven't replied sooner. Thanks very much for pointing out what looks like a very useful and well-designed resource. I'll pass the recommendation on to our technical officer and ask him to add a link from our site.

Steve,
Congratulations! Newton's Castle has qualified to display the Geography World Gold Award. The section on Earth's rotation meets the necessary qualifications. I am quite impressed with the overall quality of the site. The fact that it is a cooperative effort by students in two countries makes it even more impressive.
I have already added your Website to my winners page.
Keep up the good work and I wish you the best on your Website efforts!
Best Wishes,

Hi Steve -
Your students have put together a wonderful site, and
I'll happily add it to the daily page's template.
When the favorite links page is updated it'll be
there, too.
Smart sites should be celebrated and shared.
Every other Sunday I'm a guest on Erin Hart's radio
show on KIRO in Seattle.
I'll add Newton's Castle to the list of recommended
links for the show Sunday, January 22nd.
There's a page dedicated to links used on
Erin's show
, so Newton's Castle will also be posted there.
Thanks for the kind words.
