Jeffrey Aikens

I am a senior in Murry Bergtraum High school for Business Careers and this was my second time being in the Think Quest competition. I can truthfully say that this competition has only increased my passion for literature and love for technology. I'm the web designer for this group and have contributed many wonderful things to this website. The movies and poetry on this website are some of my best works. I have also created The Odyssey, Electra, Tartuffe, James Joyce and the Literary Moments. I know in my heart and mind that the knowledge gained from this event will only launch me forward in life and add another skill to my list of talents.

Learning is a process of fulfilling an empty brain as while as an exercise to strengthen our brain ' s muscle from day to day. As a high school student I have experienced a series of experiences in learning. I learn from each individual who are around me. My teachers and classmates play a major role in my learning experience especially my teachers. Learning classic literature is a great attempt to explore the past which may relate to our current life. I have learned Hamlet, Macbeth, and sonnets by William Shakespeare. These works of literature include the real meaning of life, which I cannot discover easily in my life even they are around me daily. Each piece of knowledge is like a light directs me to walk out from the dark. The light bright my mind and shines my life. For example, Hamlet ' s analysis of his point of views in death and life from his to be or not to be soliloquy impressed me deeply. I am totally agreed with his view. He said that life is suffering but what can tell what kind of our after life is. When people are died they never returned back and tell us about the new world. It aroused me to manage all of my problems that make me suffered because it is the safest way to eliminate my sorrows without taking dangerous exploration to the new world. May be his view is not special or interested to others. However, it is my favorite because it helps a lot. Making me to know how to cherish and love each person around me. Learning is not the only way to enhance my academic life, but also improve my personal life.

I am a girl who was ignorant for computer techniques.  Even there are lots of splendid computer programs, such as Fireworks, Flash, FrontPage, Dreamweaver , and Microsoft Publisher store in my computer; I don't know how to use them.  When I noticed that I will join the Think Quest contest and vie with those computer geniuses, my heartbeat increased rapidly.  It was impossible for me to win.  However, a year study in my coach, Ms. Wu's class enhanced my knowledge of Fireworks, Flash, FrontPage, etc.  I never spend so much time on a project as I do for Think Quest contest.  Every time I finished each link successfully, I immersed in a feeling of content.  By joining this contest, I have experience the fulfillment of designing a website since it is not just a website but also symbolizes my increasing knowledge of the computer.

I was glad to join the Think Quest contest because it made me become familiar about Shakespeare's masterpieces and other well-known authors such as George Eliot. I enjoyed reading these literatures and absorbing the knowledge of creating websites for these great masterpieces. When I started to design the websites for William Shakespeare and George Eliot, I met hurdles and adversities since I had no experience for setting up a website. However, Ms. Wu and my team mates helped me a lot and I learned computer techniques rapidly. One of the most valuable things I learned for joining the Think Quest was how to work in a group and I experienced the fulfillment of doing a gorgeous website with my team mates.

I was a normal high school student before joining the Think Quest contest. The Think Quest changed my life and increased my knowledge of many famous literatures through creating a website for these books. I want to thank my team mates and my coach, Ms. Wu, they helped me a lots. When I forgot to upload my work to Think Quest file manager, my team mates didn't blame on me, instead they wrote the work that I forgot to upload for me. I really appreciate I was one of the member of this outstanding team and I will remember this great experience for joining this contest.

I believed joining the Think Quest contest would be a great memory for me in the future. By creating the webpage for To the Lighthouse , I absorbed deeper acquaintance for this book as well as the author, Virginia Woolf, since each author adds his point of view and prospective into the book. I could learn the author's experience and knowledge of the society by simply reading the book. When I created the webpage for To the Lighthouse , I felt I reread the book again and even more deeply understood the theme and characterizations of the character of the book.
