
There are many different holidays celebrated in Mexico. Here is a list of some of the holidays and a brief explanation of each one.
January 6- Dia de los Santos Reyes is the day when Mexicans exchange Christmas presents in accordance with the arrival of the three gift bearing Wisemen to Jesus Christ.
Feb 5- Dia de la Constitucion is an official holiday that commemorates Mexico's Constitution.
The B-Day of Benito Juarez- he was a famous Mexican president and national hero, this is an official Mexican holiday.
La Semana Santa- is the holy week that ends the 40-day Lent period. This week includes Good Friday and Easter Sunday. It is the Mexican custom to break confetti-filled eggs over the heads of friends and family.
May 5- Cinco de Mayo- is the Mexican national holiday that honors the Mexican victory over the French army at Puebla de Los Angeles in 1862. Cinco de Mayo is of really great importance to the Mexico and Chicano communities. It marks the Mexican army's close victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, even though the Mexican army was eventually defeated at the Battle of Puebla. It was a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. With the close victory, Mexico demonstrated to the world around them that Latin America was willing to defend themselves of any foreign intervention.
Dia de los Muertos- they celebrated because the people of Mexico leave cookies in the living room at night and then they go to sleep and the spirit of the dead comes and eats the cookies. It is a day to celebrate, to remember and prepare special food in honor of the departed. On this day in Mexico the streets near the cemeteries are all filled with decorations of papel picado. There are flowers, candy calaveras which are skeleton skulls. There are also parades.
