Dreams And Their History
We have had dreams since the earth existed. Dreams may have even dated back to 3000 BC-4000 BC. Some even say that your spirit and soul leave your body to go and visit. Also some people believe that if you wake up with you spirit and soul out of your body your spirit and soul may not return or fail to return.As long as anyone can remember people have always been interested in dreams. Many ancient civilizations have had temples just for dreams. Some people have thought that dreams were a sign of doom, but most ancient civilizations have thought of them as messages from above. Here are some of ancient ideas about dreams from the past:
Sumer, the earliest civilization recorded, so old that the only thing that could have proceeded is Eden. This civilization his dream records from about 5000 years ago. The nobles of Sumer paid special attention to their dreams. According to legend the first dream interpretation was the mother of Gilgamesh one of Sumer’s great kings.
Assyria this is one of the nations present during the time of Sumer they believed that dreams were omens. Example: if a person died in there dreams the end of the world id coming.
The Babylonian’s goddess of dreams was Mamu. They divided dreams into 2 categories, good dreams were sent by the gods and bad dreams were sent by the demons.
The Hebrews also considered dreams to be a connection with their God and that bad dreams were sent by demons. Joseph was a patriarch that could interpret dreams and saved Egypt by using his skill. Many other members of the Bible involved dreams.
The Egyptians also believed that gods revealed themselves in dreams. They believed that dreams displayed actual events. Their interpretations can be traced back to 2000 BC.
Many Native Americans believed that dreams revealed our hidden desires.
