Dreams Journal

A dream journal is a tool used to help you interpret dreams. Using a dream journal will help you recall your dreams.

Before you get started pick a dream journal that’s right for you. If you are someone who is very organized you may want to use a tape recorder instead of an actual dream journal. If you are someone who isn’t very organized you may want to get a notebook that you can attach a pen to. That way you won’t get distracted looking for a pen or pencil.

Before you go to sleep you should write a few things about your day. This will help you understand your dreams better because very often your mind will link your dreams to events during that day. Try to use action metaphors to help explain your dreams. For instance, if you dream that you are in school and you have received a F, try to think where in your life do feel like your failing. Maybe today you have felt that something that you have done would be a failure.

Dream Signs

A lot of people turn to books to find out what certain symbols in their dreams mean. Sometimes this will work but when you are trying to find out what your dreams mean try to decide what symbols mean to you. It often helps to use present tense to find out how the symbols really mean to you and how you feel in the dream. For instance “I am going through the door…” this might mean your crossing over to something new. Maybe you are dreaming about being with a lot of friends. This might sound good but when you use the present tense you might realize the following “ I’m with my friends but I fell uneasy, I feel that they are all staring at me and that they are talking about me.” This may mean that you feel that you don’t belong with your friends. If you look in any book or on any website for the meaning of friends it will probably mean you will hear of an illness.
