The earth monster that was here before the earth was created also created the moon and the stars. Her name was Coatlicue. Her daughter’s Children went up to heaven. Coatlicue found a ball of hummingbird feathers she tucked them in her dress this incident made her become pregnant Soon after words she discovered that she was pregnant. Her children were ashamed of her when they found out she was pregnant. “Who is the father of your child?’’ the children demanded.” I think it was that ball of hummingbird feathers!” she said. But no one believed her. Her children decided to kill their mother, for a god could have only given birth once. Coatlicue soon discovered of her fate and began to run. The bottom part of her body went flying into the air and crashed into the seas which formed the earth and the other half went to the heaven. Then Huitzilopochtli went to the heavens to rule over the moon and the stars. Then Coatilicue traveled to earth to make sure the earth had fruits and berries. The Coatilicue had a baby boy named Quetzalcoatl the feathered serpent who then created the first humans. The way he created man was from grey ash. With a single swing of the sword Huitzilpochtli sent half of Xiuhcoatl into the heavens and the other half into the sea these formed heaven and earth. Huitzilpochtli went to the heavens to rule from there and Coatlicue went to the earth to make sure it was fertile. One of Coatlicues sons, Quetzacoat,l the feathered serpent that created the first humans from grey ash. When the first men were on earth, the earth gave in plenty and the men’s lives were easy. Soon the men forgot to honor their creators so Quetzacoatl. Quetzatacoatl saw a couple that was not like the other men and decided to spare them. The husband was Teta and the wife was Nena. Quetzacoatl gave them instructions. “Find the tallest and strongest hollow tree. Take shelter in it and you will live, but only take one cob of corn.” Teta and Nena obeyed and lived happily ever after. Quetzacoatl flooded the oceans and turned his greedy creation into fish. Tertra and Nina survived and repopulated the world with humble people. The earth mother became mean and evil. She decorated herself with human body parts and serpents and was called the “grandmother.” She became hungry for human blood and demanded a sacrifice. The humans gave one human heart a year as tribute. |
