History

The Aztecs first conquered the natives in the Valley of Mexico in 1200 AD. In 1325 the Aztecs built their capital city on Lake Tazcoco. The marvelous city would be called Tenochtitlan. At it's peak, Tenochititlan held 250,000 people. The government structure of the Aztecs was a monarchy, with a High Emperor and under him his generals, sometimes called the cihuacotl. The Aztecs became a powerful empire through conquering neighboring tribes.
