The Aztecs developed an advanced calendar system, which resembled the modern day calander. The Aztec calender was made up of two parts, a calendar that was used for agricultural purposes or known as the sun calendar, and a separate calendar that was used for ritual purposes, known as the tonalpohualli. The tonalpohualli is a "sacred calendar" that was used for religious purposes by Aztec priests. The solar calendar consisted of 365 days while the tonapohualli consisted of 260 days.

The Aztecs wrote using pictographs, as well as in their counting system. This form of pictographs were mainly used to record history, business and land records.

The Aztecs apart from making jewelry, also made highly realistic figures of people and animals, with obsidian, jade, and quartz.
