What is Overpopulation of Pets?

Overpopulation of pets is many cats and dogs living in one place in a state. For example, pets that don't have homes and live on the street. Millions of animals live their daily lives without homes.

There are 4 to 6 million stray animals living in the United States. Cities like New York are filled with thousands of stray cats and dogs. These stray animals have babies everyday. They need homes so that the number of offspring they produce can be controlled. There are no homes for all of these animals. Due to these reasons, America's animal shelters grow larger each day. Animals are really suffering out there. One reason why is because homeless pets can die from not being fed. They can also die from extreme temperatures, illnesses and diseases, as well as other dangers that may occur.

How You Solve Overpopulation

It can be solved. Female cats and dogs make over 64,000 babies yearly. Currently, many towns and cities have reduced their overpopulation rates by 30 to 60 percent. Animals can be saved by people in your community. One way people can solve overpopulation is to adopt homeless pets. People can contribute money to animal organizations and shelters or start their own associations to help fight overpopulation. People can also volunteer at animal shelters to help out by feeding the pets, helping to clean cages or any other possible way. You don't need to adopt, but you can call an animal shelter if you see a stray animal in trouble. As you can see, overpopulation of homeless pets are a serious problem.
