Twin Transportation

Twin cars are cars with the same chassis and share the same under-hood along with the interior components. Some styles can be similar even if they have a different sheet of metal. Although they can be sold under different brands, they can have similar prices. When there is a twin car, they nickname it “badge engineering” since the engineer can change the car by simply changing the badge or name of the car. Car manufacturers do this so they can sell the same car under two different names. For example, General Motors sells twin cars under different names- one might be a Chevrolet and the another a Pontiac.

One pair of twin cars is the Blackpool twin cars. A man named Joseph Franklin studied trailers in 1957 in Germany. When he came back, he had an idea to change two series of two rail coaches for a pair of twin cars. He used car 275 and 274. They were changed so they could be joined.

Everyone was ready for the journey back to Blackpool when they started tampering with 274's electrical equipment and had it removed. Only the front car would have the electrical equipment. The experiment was called a success and 8 more were fitted with only front ends. But the problem was that they could only go around in loops. Later on, they coupled more rail cars together, this time with electrical equipment at both ends so the rail cars could go back and forth. Our modern trains have this same design.

The next twin cars are the Bespin Motor Storm IV Twin Pod Cloud Car. For short we will call them the Twin Cloud Cars. They are from the "Star Wars" movie. They guard over Cloud City. These strange cars are brick-colored and have two cockpits connected and a laser at the end of the snout. They have repulsorlift, a type of antigravity engine. They are fascinating.

Twin tramcars were also coupled in Germany. They were called the Twin Cars of BLVV and were worker trains. They had two motorcars joined with trailer cars. They had only one motor and one controller.

Perhaps the most famous twin cars are the red double-decker buses of England. These buses have two levels to carry about 80 passengers. In England the British Double-Decker Buses are a privately owned bus company and a trademark of this country.  In September 1994 this company got their first bus and in 1999 they gave their first tour.  Many tourists visiting London take a sightseeing tour of the city on top of the double-decker bus.
