Have you ever visited a botanical garden? Well many botanical gardens have Greenhouses where they keep the plants in a warm temperature so they can grow healthy.  Greenhouse Gases help us live comfortably in Earth. Greenhouses gases trap the Sun's warmth by not allowing natural gases to escape. The problem is that humans are burning more fossil fuels than ever before and are cutting down thousands of trees causing more and more greenhouse gases. The more gases that there are, the more the earth heats up.  We are adding more to the natural greenhouse gases, and as result the earth is getting hotter and the ice in Antarctica is melting. The climate is changing and is causing harm in animals and plants habitats.  Usually the average temperatures on earth increases and decreases, but in the past decades the earth's temperatures are rising. Some scientist believe that this is happening because we are using more gas, oil, coal, methane.

Greenhouses

Botanists in cool climates use greenhouses to grow plants.
Greenhouses helps the heat to stay in and not to escape.
The greenhouses are made by using a clear covering in order
to allow visible light to come in.

Greenhouses Gasses
The earth also has a transparent covering layer that allows the sun's rays to come in and heat the earth and stay warm. Think of this layer as a transparent blanket covering a ball. We need greenhouses gases to keep the earth in a conformable temperature and not reach temperatures below zero.
The Greenhouse Effect
ghg

The greenhouse effect has increased since the Industrial Revolution.  Humans are burning more fossil fuels and are using more gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide more than ever. These activities are causing the earth to warm up and, as a result, global warming is happening.

Click on the picture below to view a clip on how greenhouse gases increases global warming.

Greenhouse Gases
Carbon Dioxide
We are increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the environment by using too much gas, oil, coal, and using a lot of electricity. The cutting down and burning of trees also releases carbon dioxide.
Methane
Methane can be found in decomposing waste that is found in garbage dumps or landfills. Methane can also  be found in the cultivation of rice. Believe or not cattle and sheep's burps also produce methane.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide increases when we burn our vegetation and when farmers use nitrogenous fertilizers on the soil to grow their crops.
