Leonardo and the Shroud
But if Leonardo pioneered his own method of photography 300 years before the birth of photography, how has this this evidence of the breakthrough discovery eluded Leonardo's biographers? The answer may lie in Leonardo's secretive ways. In some of his journals he wrote in a mirrored handwriting to conceal his meaning. Advocates of the Leonardo shroud theory contend that he had compelling reasons to hide this discovery, leaving his achievements in photography a dark secret.
  • Any record of him achieving a photographic image would have him killed since the church hated anything what we would call photography.
  • Working with these chemical compounds he might be considered an alchemist or witch. That could be problematic at the time.
  • Leonardo discusses Optics in one of his Codex entries and certainly was capable of producing it.
He invented the tank, flying machines, giant crossbow, and submarine as a miltary engineer but he was also a master of anatomy. If he didn't know how a body would react if it were crucified, he certainly was capable of finding out.
