Hunting in California: California is wildly associated with hunting. They offer big game hunting, small game hunting, upland game hunting and even waterfowl hunting. The majority of hunters usually go for big game hunting. Big game animals include black bear, bighorn sheep, deer, elks, pronghorns (antelope), and wild pigs. In fact, because these animals are hunted so often, wildlife management and hunting programs for the majority of hunted animals in California was started. The hunting season for the black bear is August 13 through December 25. The hunting seasons for bighorn sheep are November 12 through December 11, and December 17 through January 1. The hunting seasons for deer are August 13 through September 25, and November 26 and December 11. The hunting seasons for elks are August 31 through September 18, October 8-30, November 5-27, December 3-11, August 13 through September 2, and September 3-29. The hunting season for pronghorns (antelope) is August 6through September 28. Finally the hunting dates for wild pigs, is generally all year round.
