Coral reefs are located in tropical oceans near islands. The temperature of the oceans are usually between 68-82 degrees fahrenheit. Reefs usually devolop in areas that have a lot of wave action because the waves bring food, nutrients and oxygen to the reef.  Reefs need calcium and water to grow which is more available in shallow warm water.
