Slang.... Slang
has always been used in the 50’s. It may not be a surprise, if you watched the
movie Grease. If you used a time machine to go back to the 50’s, you would
probably not understand ANYTHING that they say. You would think that the bad
kids used slang in the 50’s, but you are very wrong. Many of the
“teacher’s pets” would use slang also. Fifties
slang wasn't “Happy Go Lucky”. Although it was pretty different from the
sixties, from the drugs being overused. In the fifties, it would be,
I’m-so-cool-I-could-do-anything-I-want type of slang. Many
of the slang words would add ‘ville’ to the end of words. There was
coolsville, deadsville, doodyville, squaresville, weirdsville and so forth.
For
those of you who didn’t get the point, here's a piece of newsflash for you.
"Cool" was their word. They would stretch out the “oo” so it would
take about 3 seconds to say the actual word. As
a matter of fact, have you ever heard that saying, “You want a knuckle
sandwich?” The fifties started that! It was used so often, many people
didn’t even know where that came from. The correct definition is “a punch in
the mouth.” Did you know the word “teenager” was created in the 50’s? They created that word because of the population of that age group. Actually, teenagers were able to buy more food, clothes and music because of their increase in the spending of money
