You may ask yourself, “How can a continent that is so large and rich in natural resources be one of the poorest continents in the world?”

Around the late 19th century and the middle of the 20th century European countries started to colonize the African continent. After African countries won their independence through fighting the colonizers, they stared to build their nations. However, the colonizers had left a damaging foot print over the continent.

Many of the problems that occurred after the African nations won their independence focused on issues of corruption in the new governments, high national debts, and wars over the natural resources. Certain factors related to these problems have stopped the African nations from creating stable economies and a healthy political climate. Some of the effects of poverty these problems present are lack of water, malnutrition, and spread of diseases.

Many of the people of Africa aren’t making enough money to have a dignified quality of life.
