Welcome to our website! "Personal Security Online" is a website created by a group of four Regis High School students that aims to demystify and provide a starting foundation for safe use of the internet. As students and internet users ourselves, we understand the need for safe internet use, and also the tremendous benefits that accompany it. In this website, we aim to provide a foundation to all interested readers for safe internet use in four areas:
- Identity Theft: In this section, we aim to cover the basics of identity theft, display some common ways that identities are stolen, and give a few pointers on how to avoid identity theft.
- Malware: Malware can be a tricky topic, yet unfortunately it cannot be discussed enough. In this section, we extensively overview the history of malware, types of malware, how to prevent malware, and what makes malware what it is.
- Social Networking: Social networking is exploding in popularity, and in this section we aim to offer a bit of an introduction to those who might be unfamiliar with it. Emphasis is placed on staying safe on social networks by understanding the serious consequences that can arise if one does not think carefully before acting.
- Secure Home Networking: As experienced computer users, we understand the value of home networks, but we also understand the risks. In this section, we aim to provide an overview of different types of home networking, what a home network is and how the different pieces fit together, and the steps and planning that go into setting one up. In this section in particular, we have taken special care to describe things in as nontechnical language as possible, using conceptual terms wherever applicable to open the realm of home networking to relatively inexperienced users.
At the end of each section, we have provided a quiz so that you can test your knowledge on our Quizzes page. Lastly, if you want to learn more about the team that created this website, see the About Us page.
