Personal Security Online is a creation of a Regis High School web design team consisting of four people. Ben Buchanan '08 was the team leader and coordinated the project. He also wrote the Secure Home Networking section. Ryan Genato '08 provided much of the layout and design of the site, and also wrote the Identity Theft section. Coulter King '09 wrote the Malware section. David Kearns '10 wrote the Social Networking section.
This was very much a collaborative effort. The design and layout was critiqued by all team members, and each team member submitted an outline early in the process for review by other team members. In initial discussions, a substantial amount of feedback was generated through the discussions about the site, and it was out of these discussion that the idea for a broad, nontechnical, introductory site to personal security online was born. The team, all students from Regis High School and living around the Tri-State area, came with various levels of computer experience in web design, and wherever possible, more experienced team members tried to offer their work as examples and provide direction to the project.
In compiling content, the team aimed to draw on two main sources. First, experience often provided the initial stimulus for a section, and often helped fill in many of the blanks. In this regard, team members were eager to help others avoid long, frustrating roadblocks that they themselves had faced in the past. In addition, though, the team sought out evidence and pieces of information from other sources, ranging from common, but reputable, overview sites, news articles, and official guidlelines from organizations of authority, such as the US government or the Wi-Fi standards group.
