Phishing is one form of identity theft. Phishing is the stealing of personal information though a medium such as e-mail or a website. Its name originates from the more familiar term "fishing", but adapted to match with the term "phreaking", which iss the hacking of the communications network. An e-mail such as the one below can and will trick some users into e-mailing their specifics back to the sender, who is not actually the company represented. The phisher may then use the victim's information as he or she pleases.
