Here we will go over the best settings for saving a movie for vimeo when using Windows Movie Maker.

A very good tutorial which shows the entire process of importing, editing and saving for vimeo can be found at http://vimeo.com/131649

If you have been working on your project using Movie Maker and saving regularly (always remember to do that!) what you have is a file that can only be seen with the Movie Maker application. In order to share it with others (and upload to vimeo), you need to save it as a movie file. Here are the steps!

  1. Go to the File Menu and chose “Save Movie File”
    savemoviefile
  2. Select “My Computer” and then click “Next”
    savemycomputer
  3. Give the movie a name and note where you are saving it (so you can find it when you upload) then click “Next”
    savefilename
  4. Under “Movie Settings” choose “Other Settings” and from the drop down menu, select “Video for Broadband 512 Kbps” then click on “Next”
    savebroadband512
  5. Depending on the length of your movie and the speed of your computer this process can take a while. When it’s done you will have a file with the extension “.wmv” - this is the file that you should upload to vimeo.

That’s it!
